ST. PAUL, Ore. (AP) — An estimated 5,000 individuals attended the memorial service for a St. Paul, Oregon, firefighter on Saturday afternoon.
Austin Smith, 30, died after an explosion occurred whereas he was battling a big barn fireplace.
KOIN-TV studies tons of of emergency automobiles — fireplace, EMS and legislation enforcement from Oregon, Washington and neighboring states — participated in a procession from Woodburn to the St. Paul Rodeo grounds earlier than the afternoon memorial service.
The blast occurred on Feb. 3 quickly after firefighters arrived at Champoeg Farm, critically injuring Smith, a volunteer firefighter. Paramedics offered first assist and Smith was flown by a medical evacuation helicopter to Oregon Well being & Science College Hospital in Portland, however he died of his accidents.
Smith had been with the St. Paul Fireplace District since 2015.
“He was each little bit of what St. Paul’s about,” St. Paul Mayor Marty Waldo stated. “He gave of himself. Individuals, younger individuals like him, they’re the way forward for St. Paul. It’s a fairly large blow for the group.”
Smith is survived by spouse Ashley and lots of relations.
